work + play + dream + make.

For more nearly 30 years I have been creating original and award winning content for film, television and publishing. The work presented here highlights my own professional development, independent creative outputs and personal projects dear to my heart.

I am an award-winning veteran of the film, television, advertising and children’s publishing industries. In addition, I lecture on the craft of animation, academic studies and professional practice at Cert. Dip. and BA + (hons) levels at Yoobee College of Creative Innovation, and have double Masters degrees in Media Arts and Creative Writing (Screenplay).  As a film and television animation industry veteran, published children’s writer, illustrator, and musician, I direct, design, develop, produce and create original content.  Being closely involved in the business of producing and funding animation, (both in NZ and internationally through co-productions), as well as book publishing, I am skilled with finance, budgets, schedules, working to briefs, developing pipelines, directing, and overseeing large scale series. However, my focus remains storytelling. Working from the kernel of a concept, through to script and then finished production, in whichever medium is best suited to my particular narrative, has been my passion since I began my professional creative journey.

My books have been published internationally, I am a New York Times best seller’s list illustrator, and the writer/director and creator of TVNZ children’s series ‘Puzzle Inc’ (42x5min Episodes).  I currently work as a storyboard/animatic artist on the international award winning television series ‘Kiri and Lou’ and senior animator on BBC series ‘Tiny Wonders’.  I am represented by Vicki Marsdon at HighSpot Literary Agency and have many TV series, books, graphic novel series and creative projects in development.

I live in the country with my wife, four children, a cat and a small but perfectly formed cluckery of chickens.

A good story told well.
